How it works

Three small steps.
One handmade message
in someone's mailbox.

No special skills, no long commitment! We bring the instructions, prompts, and the route to a real care facility. You bring twenty minutes and a steady hand.

The journey

Handmade to hand-delivered.

1
made for you,by a stranger.

Create.

Show up to one of our popups. Or host your own at your office, school, café, or church (wherever your people gather), and mail them to our Austin P.O. Box. Twenty minutes is all it takes.

2
HELLOBY HAND

Collect.

Cards are gathered, checked, photographed, and sealed. Each batch is stamped with our handmade postmark, a quiet signal to the recipient that the card was purposefully made by real people.

HELLO BY HAND· EST 2024 · MAIL THAT MATTERS ·

Deliver.

We hand-deliver cards to partnered nursing homes, memory care units, and long-term care facilities. Mail delivery becomes the best part of someone's afternoon!

Common questions

Anything else you might be wondering!

Still curious? Write us at HBH@artlyworld.org. We read everything.

Do I need to have special arts skills?

No, truly! The most cherished cards are the simple ones. A short paragraph in steady handwriting, a stenciled flower design, a song lyric. Anyone can make a card, even people who haven't picked up a marker since middle school.

Who receives the cards?

Residents of partnered nursing homes, memory care units, and long-term care facilities, many of whom rarely receive any mail. Recipients are coordinated with activities directors so cards reach the people who need them most.

What does it cost to host a popup?

For individuals and chapter groups who want to host their own popups, the only cost is supplies. Provide your own, contact us for a sponsored supply kit (availability depends on supply), or purchase one of our cardmaking kits with everything you'll need to host a seamless cardmaking session. For larger corporate events, we charge a supplies and logistics fee with sponsorship options that cover delivery routes.

Can I mail a card from home?

Yes , mail to our Austin P.O. Box (in the footer). We open, lightly check, and route everything within 14 days.

Is HBH a registered nonprofit?

HBH is an initiative of Artly World, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving communities for over 14 years. Donations are tax-deductible.

Can my school / company partner with you?

Yes , see For workplaces. We host activations for teams of 30 to 500 with two weeks of lead time.
