The house rules,
kept short.
Hello by Hand runs on volunteers, not lawyers. These terms cover the basics of using this site, mailing a card, and donating, written in plain language rather than legalese.

The short version
- This is a free volunteer project, not a company. Be kind to the people who run it.
- A card you send is a gift, not correspondence. There is no reply address and no back-and-forth.
- We cannot guarantee a specific recipient, a timeline, or that any particular card will be delivered.
Who we are
Hello by Hand is an initiative of Artly World, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. When these terms say "we" or "us," they mean Hello by Hand and Artly World.
Using this site
This site is free to browse. Please don't attack it, scrape it abusively, or use it to misrepresent who you are or what Hello by Hand does.
Making and mailing cards
Cards travel from a volunteer's hands to a senior in a care facility, so a few things keep that possible:
- No personal contact details on the card: no phone numbers, email addresses, or social handles.
- No religious or political pressure, and nothing that identifies the sender's home address.
- Keep it kind and legible.
- No cash or gift cards enclosed.
We may decline to deliver a card that isn't appropriate for a senior in care. If we decline a card, we won't return it.
No guarantee of delivery or reply
Cards are sorted and delivered to facilities in batches, not addressed to a named person you choose. We cannot promise that any card reaches a specific recipient, arrives by a certain date, or gets a reply. This is the single most common misunderstanding about Hello by Hand, so we want to say it plainly: your card is a gift sent into the world, and we do everything we can to get it to someone who will treasure it, but we can't promise who or when.
Photographs and your card
By mailing a card to us, you allow us to photograph it for our archive, this site, and social media. If you'd like your name or other identifying details obscured, or you'd rather your card not be photographed at all, just ask. See our privacy page for how to make that request.
Donations
Donations are processed by Zeffy, our third-party payment processor. Because Hello by Hand operates under Artly World, a 501(c)(3), donations made in the US are generally tax deductible; Zeffy issues your receipt. Donations are non-refundable except in cases of an error, in which case email us and we'll make it right. Nothing here is tax advice; talk to your own tax professional about your specific situation.
Events and popups
Our card-making popups and events are free and open, and you attend at your own risk. Venues we use have their own rules, which apply alongside ours. We may photograph events for the site and social media; if you'd rather not appear in a photo, just let the organizer know.
Chapters, ambassadors, and workplace sessions
Approved ambassadors and chapters may use the Hello by Hand name and materials to run their own sessions. That permission doesn't create any employment, partnership, or agency relationship between you and us, and it can be withdrawn at any time.
Our content and yours
The text, images, and the Hello by Hand name and logo on this site belong to us. You're welcome to share and link to our pages freely. Please don't imply our endorsement of something we haven't approved, or resell our materials.
Third-party embeds
This site embeds a few outside services: Paperform for forms, Zeffy for donations, FormSubmit for relaying one enquiry form, and Luma for event listings. Each of those is governed by its own terms of service, separate from ours.
No warranty, and limits
This site and its content are provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do our best to keep things accurate and running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted.
To the extent the law allows, Hello by Hand and Artly World are not liable for damages arising from your use of this site or participation in our programs. Nothing in this paragraph limits any right you have under law that cannot be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page is the most current record.
